Stornoway Rugby Club’s ladies team have their fingers crossed for a historic match scheduled for Saturday (March 23rd) at Bayhead.

The team have their first competitive home match, with Inverness Craig Dunain RFC ladies due to join them for a clash in the Sarah Beany Cup tournament. Kick-off is set for 2.30pm.

But high winds and warnings of ferry cancellations are now putting the match in doubt, and the club could have to wait for a new fixture before they can put their stamp on home turf.

Stornoway RFC ladies have already played one match in the tournament, against Howe Harlequins, with a full-time score of 79-5 to the mainland opponents.

But the host club later commented: “Stornoway RFC Ladies are an absolute credit to their club and played a game where the score line doesn’t reflect the shift they put in.

"Their fitness and heads-up attitude was reflected in their game, right up to their try in the final minute.”
