BBC Alba will this weekend televise exclusive live coverage of the IRN-BRU Cup final between Dundee United and St Mirren
Coverage from Fir Park, Motherwell, begins on Saturday at 12.15pm, with kick-off at 12.30pm. The match will be presented by Calum Macaulay, with commentary from Alex O’Henley and analysis from Ryan Stevenson, who recently retired from professional football following a career at Hearts, Ayr United and Raith Rovers amongst others.
Dundee United progressed to the final following wins against Peterhead, Stranraer and Dunfermline in the earlier rounds which was then followed by a 3-2 victory against Queen of the South at Palmerston Park.
St Mirren, meanwhile, reached the last two following wins over Albion Rovers, Hibs and Ayr United which was then complemented by a 4-1 semi-final win against Welsh side The New Saints at the Paisley 2021 Stadium.
The clubs have already met on three occasions this season, with Dundee United emerging victorious on the first two occasions. However, it was St Mirren that triumphed in their most recent fixture earlier this month in a 3-2 win in Paisley.
As well as the live action on the pitch, we spoke to Dundee United captain Sean Dillon ahead of his testimonial match against Heart of Midlothian at Tannadice earlier this week. Former team mates of the defender turned out to mark his 10 years with the Tayside club, including former managers Craig Levein and Peter Houston.
At St.Mirren, Stephen McGinn has returned to the club where his football journey began with a mission to keep them in the Championship. Having spent the past seven years plying his trade in English football, the club captain feels he is equipped to lead the team to safety. The 28-year-old also reminisces about the old Love Street Stadium and how the new stadium has begun to feel like home now.
Coverage of the IRN-BRU Cup final is being produced for the channel by mneTV, with BBC ALBA providing a premier sports package that also covers action from the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Championship, live shinty as well as live PRO12 league rugby.
