Barra lifeboat is currently (Sunday July 7th 6.30pm) standing by to assist a fishing vessel which is grounded on a reef north-east of the island.
The lifeboat was called at 5.29pm to the assistance of the vessel, with seven people aboard, grounded near Rubha Bhruairnish in Northbay.
The vessel is currently awaiting the rising tide to refloat, when her condition will be established pending further assistance.
It’s the second call in 48 hours for the Castlebay RNLI crew, who were out on Saturday morning at 9.15am to the assistance of the fishing vessel Five Sisters, with five people aboard, which had suffered engine failure close to the shore north-east of Mingulay.
Stornoway Coastguard operations centre co-ordinated a rescue operation with a local fishing vessel taking the casualty under tow until the lifeboat arrived at 9.38am.
The lifeboat then took over the tow and returned the vessel safely to Vatersay. The lifeboat was alongside and refuelled by 11.30am.
