Luke MacLeod, from Gress, who is a pupil at The Nicolson Institute was today (Tuesday June 5) announced at the Lewis Local Mod’s Literacy Day as the winner of the Dìleab (Legacy) prize.
Luke wrote a poignant story about the HMY Iolaire tragedy and received high praise from the judges who presented him with the award.
The piece was written as a diary with two brothers returning home after four, long hard years at War.
Unfortunately, the boy’s brother died on the Beasts of Holm. Luke was commended for his writing, which was judged to have demonstrated good research, featured a lot of feeling and impressive use of imagery.
Luke is pictured receiving his award from Councillor Angus McCormack, Chairman of the Education, Sport and Children’s Services Committee at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
