Stornoway Lifeboat was launched yesterday afternoon (Monday March 19th) after the locally-registered prawn trawler Prevail called for help.

Stornoway Coastguard took the call at 1.10pm from the fishing vessel, which had lost engine power and was taking on water off Bayble island. She was already under tow by the Ballantrae-registered Ocean Maid.

The skipper was concerned that the bilge pumps were not keeping pace with water coming in, so the RNLB Tom Sanderson was tasked to head for the scene and stand by in case there was a need for further assistance.

The Prevail was escorted into Stornoway harbour, where she was brought alongside to unload her cargo of prawns. Stornoway Coastguard Rescue Team stood by at the pier to assist her coming alongside.

All teams were stood down by 3.40pm and the casualty vessel is now on the slip at Goat Island undergoing repairs.
