Castlebay School head teacher Suzanne Forman (above) was one of the Western Isles runners who did the islands proud in London today (Sunday April 28th), completing the world-famous run in a creditable four hours 15 minutes and 54 seconds.

She was in the field with Lewis Pipe Band drummer Jodie Mackay (below) who was running in support of Guys and St Thomas’s Hospital in London – where she works as a staff nurse. Jodies’s grandfather received life-saving treatment at the same hospital more than 25 years ago and he was there to support her run, which has brought in over £3,500, watching her come home from the crowd at Westminster Bridge.

Jodie said: “The 28th of April is in fact my Papa’s birthday. He will be 84 years old, god willing, and unfortunately but bravely battling with stage 4 prostate cancer. It would be an incredible achievement, but also probably the proudest moment of my life to be able to finish the race with my papa waving me on from the sidelines of Westminster Bridge.”

Suzanne Forman has earned the admiration of her students and colleagues, after

running to raise money for the Eilidh Macleod Memorial Trust. She has already raised £3,500 through her efforts.

A social media post on the Castlebay School page read: “A million congratulations to our amazing Head Teacher Suzanne Forman for completing the London Marathon today! We are extremely proud of you and your dedication to the ‘The Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust’. On behalf of Suzanne, a huge thanks to everyone for supporting Ms Forman – congratulations and very well done on such a huge achievement!”

The Eilidh Macleod Memorial Trust was set up in memory of Vatersay teenager Eilidh, who died after the Manchester Arena Bombing in 2018. A permanent memorial statue is now under construction and the fund will also support musical education with children and young people.

The statue, expected to be in place early in 2020, is being cast in bronze by artist Jenna Gearing and will be sited in a memorial garden overlooking Vatersay. It features a young piper with her hand extended to support a child, who is also holding a practice chanter.
