Those people using the Bank Holiday as an excuse to visit the Castle Grounds in Stornoway for the first time in a while, will find extensive changes in the area around the Castle itself, where the formal gardens are starting on a programme of renewal which means extensive restoration and development of pathways.

In the area in front of the Castle itself, the retaining wall is exposed for the first time in a century or more - with the earth below it excavated as well, showing how much earth was placed on top of the original peat banks and how they rested on clay below them.
