A special concert will be taking place in Stornoway to raise funds for the repairs to the St Columba's Church stained glass windows.
It will be in the church hall and will involve singers Barbara Scott (pictured above) and Elfi Rank, along with cellist Neil Johnston and pianists Heiko Rank and Douglas Leadbitter who will be presenting a programme of songs and instrumental pieces by some of the greatest of classical composers, Schubert, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Wagner.
One of the main items will be the Wesendonck Lieder by Richard Wagner, who five poems by Mathilde Wesendonck to music. These works were composed while living on the shores of Lake Zurich in the grounds of the estate of the poet and her husband.
Barbara Scott has returned to Stornoway, previously her home for several years, to perform these prior to a concert performance at the Edinburgh Festival later in the month. This evening's performance has been specially arranged for voice, cello and piano.
Also in the programme will be the duet for two sopranos 'I waited for the Lord' from the Hymn of Praise by Mendelssohn, the Schubert songs 'On the Stream' and 'Serenade' and from Brahms an excerpt from his first cello sonata and one of the late Intermezzi for piano solo.
The concert will take place in St Columba's Church Hall, Lewis Street, Stornoway, on Tuesday 6th August at 7.30 pm.
Entry is by donation and refreshments will be served after the performance.
