A poignant anniversary is to be turned to public benefit by Stornoway RNLI Ladies Guild member Jane Maciver on August 1st, with a 25-mile walk for the RNLI.
Jane is being joined by other Guild members and Stornoway RNLI volunteer crew to walk 25 miles from Bernera to Stornoway, in memory of her late partner Craig, a fisherman who passed away at sea.
Jane said: “It’s been 10 years since me and some friends last did this walk and I had been toying with the idea of doing it again for some time now. August 1st is a special date for me – it’s the date that me and Craig first met – and this year will mark 21 years since that meeting, so I decided this year I would do the walk again in his memory, while raising money for the Stornoway RNLI.
“It is such a very worthy charity, and one that I hold very close to my heart, especially since Craig’s accident.”

And if you’re passing between Bernera and Stornoway on August 1st – make sure to keep an eye out, toot a horn or shout encouragement, and why not drop a donation in their buckets!
