Two nights of sophisticated pleasure are promised by Stornoway Singers on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st September, as they take their Night at the Opera to Stornoway and Harris.

The choir of talented singers and soloists will be accompanied by a small chamber group, including Neil Johnstone on cello and Andy Yearley on keyboards, as they present a delectable menu of opera classics.

The group are dedicating the night to the memory of long-time choir member Janet Burns, who sadly passed away earlier this year.

In her honour, the chorus, soloists and duos will be conducted by Cath Fish in a range of music from the 17th to the 19th centuries, with popular opera classics from Italian, French, German and Russian opera. Arias, duets and choruses will be sung from opera favourites.

Excerpts come from Bizet's Carmen, Mozart's Don Giovanni and Cosi fan Tutti, Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and Puccini's La Boheme, among others, while the musicians, all local, provide accompaniment on strings, flutes and brass.
A Night at the Opera is at Stornoway Town Hall on Friday 20th September and at Talla na Mara in Horgabost on Saturday 21st, both performances at 7.30pm. Tickets are £12 with £10 concessions, from Nicolson’s newsagent in Stornoway and from Talla na Mara.
