A former Comhairle nan Eilean Siar Councillor has passed away.

Tribute has been paid to Gerry Macleod, who represented the Barraigh, Bhatarsaigh, Èirisgeigh agus Uibhist a Deas Ward from 2007 until 2012.

Gerry campaigned on a range of issues particularly for enhanced ferry services and improved infrastructure.

He also served on many community organisations including Lochboisdale Amenity Trust and Lochboisdale Sailing Club.

Gerry passed away at his home in Glasgow.

Convener of the Comhairle Norman A Macdonald, said: “Gerry was a robust campaigner for his community and for the islands.

"Our thoughts at this sad time are with his family and friends.”
