The husband and wife found dead outside their home in Gravir last Friday morning both died as a result of falling, their death certificates have revealed.

Donald Macmillan (73) and his wife Morag (67) were laid to rest together yesterday.

Mr Macmillan is said to have died first, as a result of injuries consistent with having fallen down steps.

His neck was broken and he had spinal cord severing.

The body of his wife Morag was found just metres away, in the couple's garden.

Her death certificate states her cause of death as a head injury following a fall in the garden.

Mr Macmillan, who was affectionately known as 'Boy', ran the village Post Office for the last 50 years.

Morag Macmillan was a home carer, and the couple had no children.
