Police Scotland today (Monday, March 27th) notified The Crofting Commission that they have concluded their enquiry surrounding grant monies obtain by Upper Coll Grazings Committee.

The enquiry focused on the circumstances surrounding grant monies obtained from the Western Isles council to the Upper Coll Grazings Committee, which was referred to Police Scotland for investigation by the appointed Grazings Constable.

The Crofting Commission note that no evidence of any criminality has been discovered in relation to any member of the previous Grazings Committee, and very much welcomes this outcome.

In a statement The Crofting Commission said: “The Crofting Commission recognise that this has been a stressful situation for those involved over the last number of months as Police Scotland completed their investigation.

“We would therefore reiterate our previous apology of September 28th, 2016, that acknowledged there has been prolonged uncertainty and anxiety for those involved.

“We will ensure that any lessons learnt from the case will inform future procedures and decision making.”

The Commission added: “We will continue to support the new duly appointed Upper Coll Grazings Committee to assist them in their role.”
