The new Crofting Commissioners held their first Board meeting yesterday, Wednesday March 29th.

As a Convener has not yet been appointed by Scottish Government the meeting was chaired by the Crofting Commission’s Chief Executive, Bill Barron.

Amongst other business the Board agreed to appoint Malcolm Mathieson, David Campbell and Rod Mackenzie as members to the Commission’s Audit & Finance Committee and Iain MacIver will be the Gaelic spokesperson on behalf of the Board.

Commissioners strongly emphasised the importance of open communications between the Crofting Commission and crofters across the Crofting Counties.

The previous day (Tuesday, March 28th) marked the first time all six elected and three appointed Commissioners of the Crofting Commission met, with the opportunity to have an informal chat and get to know each other over coffee in Great Glen House, Inverness, as well as met with Scottish Government officials to discuss the future of crofting legislation.
