Carhire Hebrides – one of the fastest growing enterprises on the Western Isles – has established a new base in the Stornoway Ferry Terminal, making its cars, vans and personnel far more accessible to customers both at home and away.
The new base deals with walk-in customers as well as telephone and on-line bookings similar to their established base at Stornoway Airport.
Co-owner John Cunningham said the venture – which has taken over the space formerly occupied by the Ferry Terminal café – was a logical extension of the standards of customer service they had always aimed for.
"It is important that we bring what the company offers at the airport into the heart of the town. A lot of our customers are based in the town so the logistics of hiring will get easier and more efficient. We also do a lot of hires from ferry passengers, so again this new service will make that a lot easier for bookings coming straight off the ferry."
It was in mid 2011 that the Stornoway airport base was opened by Carhire Hebrides. The redesigned office in the terminal, plus the location of20 assigned parking places just across the airport access road, meant the company could offer a much bigger range of services.
Then in September 2014 they took over the premises that used to be Ronnie Scott’s fish shop on Rigs Road in association with former hire company Arnol Motors.Utilising the space at Rigs Road, they started a sign making and printing company called SignPrint. Now SignPrint now needs all the space at that site to accommodate the growth of its business.
“When the site at Rigs Road was tight we started looking at options around the town and through our time with Arnol Motors we knew of the good relationship they had formed with the Port Authority over the years...sowe went to speak to the Authority and here we are.
"The new base is a good strategic location for Car Hire Hebrides but it also offers more options for the traveller coming onto the islands.”
The new Ferry Terminal office was redesigned and fitted-out by SignPrint. It has transformed the former café into a modern stylish office.
"This redesign and fit out is a reflection of what can be done through a good graphic designer, the right printers and was all produced on site at Rigs Road.”
Customers can hire cars from across the Western Isles – including the Uists and Barra – and the new ferry terminal office will be open six days a week from 8am-5pm and until 1.30pm on Saturday while cars can be hired from the airport seven days a week.
Said John: “There are no restrictions on hiring our vehicles.Customers are free to take our cars and vans to mainland Scotland, and can have peace of mind knowing that the vehicle is of high quality, is within the manufacturer’s warranty, and covered by the AA / RAC 24/7."
