Contest success…Councillor Donald Crichton presenting an iPad to Sean Kettle
The winners of the Outer Hebrides Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme Business Ideas Competition were recently announced to coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Business Gateway would like to say a huge thank you to all those who entered the competition, which was run in conjunction with the “OHYES” grant scheme – a joint initiative between Scape Communities ReInvest Fund and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
A good range of business ideas were received and all would have been worthy winners. The Panel of Judges deliberated in great detail over each application and two worthy winners were chosen - Sean Kettle who lives in the Isle of Lewis and Anna MacLean who lives in the Isle of Barra.
Sean and Anna have been awarded an iPad Pro and each of the other entrants has been awarded a small monetary prize. All entrants will be offered Business Gateway support to help turn their ideas into a reality.
Councillor Donald Crichton, Chairman of the Comhairle’s Sustainable Development Committee, said: “The entrepreneurial spirit evident through the competition entries is impressive. The OHYES grant scheme is an excellent opportunity to assist young people with setting up their own businesses, helping to encourage as many young people as possible to remain in these islands.”.
