An appeal has been launched against the decision by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar to reject planning permission for student accommodation on Sandwick Road.
The proposal for a 60-room student residence, with 65-space car park and heat pumps would occupy land adjacent to the car park opposite the CnES office in Sandwick Road.
The plan was rejected in November on the grounds that it would introduce a residential use on to a site adjacent to a commercial and general industrial area.
The previous year, CnES rejected plans for the building of 49 bedroom student accommodation, comprising 45 en-suite bedrooms arranged in six-bedroom cluster flats and four studios on Stag Road.
