Rally Hebrides - which draws hundreds of drivers and supporters to the Islands each August - has been cancelled, its organisers, Lewis Car Cub,  have announced.

In a Facebook statement, the Rally Hebrides committee said it "would like to officially confirm Rally Hebrides 2018 will not take place.

This was because of lack of volunteers which "would be impossible to run an event like we have done so in the past.

"It has been a hard decision but we feel at this current stage it is the best one.

"We cannot thank everyone enough for the huge support that Rally Hebrides has received over the last 10 years, and we hope after a short break we will back in August 2019…so keep an eye out for the official date! "

Earlier in March they had said on Facebook: "We are currently looking for a clerk of course (& other roles) for the provisional date of 1st of September.

"Obviously if we cannot confirm people for these roles the rally will be unable to go ahead.

"We have another meeting on 26th March to decide one way or another if it will be possible."

The rallies have raised many tens of thousands of £s for Macmillan Cancer Support over the years.
