Senior Government officials have relayed concerns raised by Isles MP Angus MacNeil to the energy regulator Ofgem ahead of the final decision on the Western Isles interconnector.

Mr MacNeil is calling on Ofgem to do what is best for the environment, the consumer and the economy and approve the Needs Case for the construction of a 600MW link to the islands.

And Highlands and Islands MSP, Donald Cameron, has also written to the Chief Executive of Ofgem, Dermot Nolan, in a final push to encourage support for a 600Mw transmission link between Lewis and mainland Scotland.

It was shearing time for the Callanish alpacas yesterday (Tuesday July 16th) – and owner Clare Lewis made sure her herd had only the best when it came to shearers.

Specialist alpaca shearer James Dixon came off the lunchtime ferry and headed straight over to the West Side, eager to get the alpacas shorn before any chance of rain could stop him.

Highland dancers from all over Scotland are heading for Lewis this weekend, as the biggest ever Hebridean Celtic Dance Festival kicks off on Saturday (July 20th).

Hosted by the Lynn Maclean School of Dancing, the annual event has been drawn into the HebCelt fringe programme and has attracted the highest number of entries since it began in 2012.
