Several Barra and Vatersay projects have been awarded funding from CalMac's Community Fund.
Feis Bharraigh’s ‘Music for All’, the Gaelic arts and culture event, has been awarded £2000. The Barra and Vatersay Junior Sports Club received £1,000 and Barra Children's Centre in support of their Children of the Sea project were awarded £2,000.
The Community Fund is open to non-profit organisations involved in activities to benefit young people in island or coastal communities.
All 24 schools in the Western Isles are receiving a Certificate of Excellence from WW100 Scotland Scottish Commemorations Panel.
The certificates are being awarded in recognition of the schools' outstanding contributions and performances in the Dìleab Project and the special HMY Iolaire 100 events.
The project saw Lewis pupils working on the loss of the Iolaire, Harris pupils focussing on World War I and Barra pupils researching emigration.
