Stornoway’s only dry-cleaning firm is to stay open until spring 2019, even though business owner Louis Shields has retired.

The business at James Street, Stornoway has been open under Louis’s management for 30 years and was expected to close when he retired.

He and his wife Marion are heading off to exotic climes, with a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia and Australia en route to Christmas in Singapore.

On Monday (October 22nd) Louis’s daughter Marsaili announced that the business will now stay open until at least spring next year, although it remains for sale.

Louis said: “There’s definitely an opening for someone, it would be great to see someone new come in, with new ideas, to cast a fresh eye over the place.”

The reprieve’s been greeted with relief by customers, many of whom described it as ‘great news’.

Dry cleaning, laundry and alterations will still be offered and there are still ex-hire kilts and accessories for sale as part of the business wind-down.
