More than 25 tiny local businesses have already signed up to take part in a major ‘Shop Local’ weekend event being pioneered by Stornoway Golf Club.
They are going to have a Black Friday – Shop Local - weekend event in the club on Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th November from 11am-7pm.
The aim, the organisers say, is to have loads of ‘micro’ local businesses with stalls of all varieties, all with offers/packages on the day for Christmas shoppers.
“We are going to have free prize draws every hour for people that can only be won by someone in the building and we will be doing a free shuttle service to and from town centre every half hour.
“We will also have a cafe area with teas, nine coffee options, light snacks and home baking available throughout.”
And there are other events. The club says: “We will be hosting our own charity bingo night on Friday 30th for the Poppy appeal/Iolaire centenary.”
The Club’s Christmas Party nights are all full except Friday December 14th.
Another new event is on Friday 28th December with the last big quiz of the year, 7.30pm. Entry £10 a team, and all entry fees go to the winning team’s choice of charity.
