A whole string of sausage dogs lined up to have their photo taken at the start of the first Hebridean Sausage Walk on Saturday (November 24th), with the scenic route alongside Stornoway harbour their backdrop.

Ten dachshunds – smooth, long-haired and wire-coated – brought their walkers along for a get-together celebrating the unique appeal of the little dogs with big character, in a quality event featuring tweed coats and waiter-service refreshments.

Waiters from Lews Castle by Natural Retreats served ‘puppacinos’ to the weary walkers on the terrace of the castle after their exercise, allowing them a little time to get their breath back before socialising among themselves.

Dachshund-owner Kate Preston, who brought her pooch Max along from Harris for the event, called it ‘the best Saturday ever’ and said next year’s event is already in planning, with more dogs expected to join in future.

Kate’s pictures show Max (in Harris Tweed) and his new friends posing for their portrait, drinking puppacino and socialising at Lews Castle.  Puppacino is a chicken stock drink with dog-friendly froth on the top.
