There are ferry cancellations and power cuts today (Friday December 7th) as stormy winds sweep across the islands.
High tide this morning coincided with the strongest winds and police called on Coastguard teams to help them close the Braighe from 8.30am. A convoy system was operated before and after the closure, with sweepers removing debris from the carriageway. Western Isles police said the road is now (10am) fully open, and Coastguards said there is some spray, but winds are diminishing.
The Loch Seaforth has stayed in Stornoway this morning and sailings to and from Ullapool have been cancelled for the day.
The sailing from Tarbert to Uig was brought forward to 5am this morning and there will be no further sailings between Tarbert and Uig today. The Sound of Harris ferry is also cancelled for the day.
147 properties in the Bays of Harris have been without power since 7.30am. Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks said engineers were on site and that they hoped to have supply restored by 11.30am.
