The Stornoway Christmas lights are due to be switched on this Friday (11 December), with everything kicking off at 6.50pm, and it promises to be a night to remember. The Stornoway Amenity Trust have joined up with Stornoway Port Authority to provide something extra special this Christmas.
The Christmas parade, which will include six vikings and 34 local torch-bearers, will leave the lifeboat station at 6.50pm, going along Cromwell Street Quay, North Beach Quay, North Beach Street, and ending up at Perceval Square.
The night’s entertainment will include Christmas carols, local dance groups, the Pipe Band, Santa, and the presentation of the ‘Stornoway at Christmas’ display winners. The entertainment is due to be finished by 8.45pm.
The Town Hall will be open with local stalls selling Christmas goodies and raffle tickets, from 4.30-6.45pm, closing for an hour for the switching-on of the lights and reopening 7.45-9.30pm.
Santa will be in Pointers from 7.45-8.45.
It is worth noting that Perceval Square car park will be closed from 4pm on Friday (except for disabled parking) so all vehicles need to vacate the car park by this time, until 8.30pm, when it will reopen.
Castle Street, North Beach Street and Cromwell Street will be closed 6.30-8.30pm.
