Preparations for the Lewis Carnival 2016, which will take place on Saturday August 6th from 12.30pm, are well underway.

The Carnival will commence at 12.30pm on Saturday August 6th, with the Carnival procession leaving Willow Glen at 1pm to head into the centre of Stornoway. The fair will be in South Beach car park, alongside more games and stalls organised by the Lewis Carnival Committee.

This year’s Lewis Carnival will include: the carnival procession with the Lewis and Skye pipe bands; games, including the gladiator joust and coconut shy, the funfair, candy floss and the famous Stornoway Round Table BBQ in South Beach car park; stalls in the Town Hall; and the continental market at the old bus station on Cromwell Street (organised by the Stornoway Amenity Trust).

The Carnival Committee would like to invite any willing volunteers to come along and help on the day, even just for an hour or two. There are also still spaces available for stalls in the Town Hall in the afternoon, and there is always room for more floats if your group or business would like to enter one – big or small! Floats need to be at Willowglen by 12.45, ready to leave at 1pm, on Saturday August 6th.

South Beach car park will be closed from 6pm on Friday 5th until 6pm on Saturday 6th August, to allow for set up of the Carnival stalls and stage. Drivers are reminded to remove their cars before this time, and to especially bear the closure in mind when considering where to park if they’re going away. Drivers are urged to use the long-stay car park beside the bus station if they are leaving their car in Stornoway over the weekend of the 6th.
