The Scottish Crofting Federation (SCF) has urged crofters to take the Scottish Government agricultural payments loan, despite the confusion caused by some erroneous notification letters.
“It is now known that some of the Scottish Government letters that went out to producers inviting them to apply for a loan in lieu of payments gave incorrect figures”, said SCF’s chair, Fiona Mandeville, “but it is important that crofters are not deterred from putting their claim in.”

Ms Mandeville continued, “The loan offer has been made available to cover for the IT system that has caused so much angst, but our understanding is that the cause of this recent confusion is something else. The error was spotted quickly and officials are rectifying it and will notify those affected. We are told it is completely safe for producers to apply for the loan; regardless of incorrect figures in the letters, they will get the correct amount of money.
This loan scheme is welcomed as it will provide possibly the earliest payment date yet,” Ms Mandeville concluded, “which is very welcome as winter approaches”.
