Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd has appointed an interim Chair to oversee the company as the process of making a permanent appointment gets underway.

Lorna Jack, a HIAL Board Member and Chief Executive of the Law Society of Scotland, will take up the post to help guide a number of projects central to the future of air travel in the Highlands and Islands.

She replaces Mike Cantlay, who left the position to take up the role of Chair of the Scottish Funding Council.

Work to identify candidates for the post on a permanent basis through the formal public appointments process is already underway.

Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf congratulated Lorna on her appointment.

“Lorna has been an invaluable member of the HIAL Board since 2014, and she is the perfect candidate to step into this role and help guide the company over the coming months,” he said.

“The process to find a permanent Chair is already underway and we will look to make that appointment as soon as we can."

Ms Jack, who has been a Board member since 2014, said: “This is a very exciting, albeit challenging, opportunity. I’m delighted to have been appointed as interim chair at HIAL, continuing the superb work of Mike Cantlay until a permanent Chair can be appointed. HIAL has gone from strength to strength, with increasing numbers of passengers and flights, under his and managing director Inglis Lyon's leadership.

“I am only able to take this on in the short term with the support and commitment of my colleague non-executive directors at HIAL and its senior management team. Together we will work to maintain that success over this transition period.”
