The new North Lewis Coastal Walk is to be launched as part of Community Land Week celebrations between August 15th and 17th.

The walk encompasses the whole of the Galson Estate and Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn (Galson Estate Trust) will be launching it in traditional style – walking the whole 37km route.

By spreading the full walk from Barvas to Tolsta over three days, UOG have made it more accessible to the less fit, with stages of different lengths for everyone to join in.

On day one, Thursday 15th August, there’s a start at Barvas for the 8km to Borve, and then a short stage from Borve to South Galson (3.7km) in the afternoon. Friday sees two stages between Galson and Swainbost (9km) and between Swainbost and Port of Ness (7km).

The Saturday has the biggest challenge, as the coastal route follows the infamous ‘bog slog’ from Ness to Tolsta – 19.4km over up to seven hours.

Anyone who would like to join the walk is asked to book a place so that transport can be organised for them, using 01851 850393 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
