A team of seven joggers will be running the Stornoway Half Marathon as a relay this weekend.

Each member of the team have attended IsleBe's Walk To Jog groups, starting at beginners level and working their way up to taking on the Half Marathon.

Jog Leader, Ann Macinnes, told welovestornoway: "This service has now been running over two years and many local people have attended in this time.

"There have been many continuing success stories."

One of the race organisers, Gerry Connelly, said: "We have had relay teams in the Stornoway Half before but generally this would be distance runners from the junior section of Stornoway Running Club.

"This year's relay is probably a first for a beginners group.

"This is significant and reflects the increasing popularity of running throughout the islands as a whole."

Ann continued: "To the average non-exerciser, taking part in a race seems out of reach and 'not for them.'

"I wanted to show people it is completely possible!"

The joggers will be running on Saturday (May 25th).

Ann concluded: "I am so proud of these joggers.

"They started at zero and gradually built up activity levels to where they are now: competing in a Half Marathon!"

In the future, the joggers hope to do a relay in a full marathon later this year.
