Under the terms of the Stornoway Harbour Act & Orders 1976 to 2008, Stornoway Port Authority is granted statutory power to make General Directions in order to govern the conduct of all vessels navigating within the statutory harbour limits (SHL) of Stornoway Harbour. The aim of the draft General Directions forwarded with this notice is to enable the safe navigation of all vessels, large and small within the Harbour and so preserve the safety of people and the avoidance of damage to property or the environment.

As required by the Port Marine Safety Code and as a Trust Port operating for the benefit of stakeholders, Stornoway Port Authority is consulting stakeholders on these draft General Directions for a period of 4 weeks from the date of this notice. A copy of the draft General Directions may be obtained by email, and is available for inspection in person at the address below. As required under the terms of the Stornoway Harbour Act & Orders 1976 to 2008, Stornoway Port Authority is also consulting with the UK Chamber of Shipping. When the consultation period is over, the draft General Directions will be reviewed in light of comments made and amended if necessary, then following internal deliberation and approval by the Board of the Stornoway Port Authority the General Directions will come into force on 30 June 2018, when public notice will be given.
