Bespoke Blooms By Maybury, based at Maybury Gardens in North Street, Sandwick, has been chosen as a finalist in the Scottish Rural Awards 2018 'Business Diversification' category.
On Facebook, Bespoke Blooms By Maybury, say: "We are totally overwhelmed here…to be a finalist of such a prestigious award. Never would we have thought that in 21 months of diversifying Maybury Gardens we would be a finalist in this category alongside incredible businesses such as Mackies of Scotland, Luss Estates, Glen Tanar Estates and many more.
"We have to thank Donna and Donnie MacKay for asking us if we could make centre-pieces for the Yorkhill Charity Ball. This was the catalyst for Bespoke Blooms By Maybury and we have organically grown from that moment on.
"In 2016 it started with designing and making bouquets on our dining room table late into the night, to attending training schools across Scotland, to creating our Bloom Box via suppliers in China, to designing and building our florist extension.
"In 2017 we were delighted to be asked to create Wedding flowers for 26 beautiful brides, we set up our website and through this we are sending out daily deliveries across the Western Isles, Scotland and beyond.
"We look forward to 2018 as we continue to grow and are excited to see what next year holds for Bespoke Blooms By Maybury.
The Scottish Rural Awards are the ultimate benchmark of excellence in Scotland’s countryside – a celebration of the enterprise, innovation, dedication and community spirit of those who live in rural Scotland. "Key to thriving in a rural business is the ability to transform, re-focus or even change direction to keep up with the times and ahead of the competition. The Business Diversification category is specifically aimed at rural businesses which have altered their strategy and adapted to the pressures in their industry – not only to thrive, but to succeed, to the benefit of the wider community.”
The awards citation says: "In 21 months they have built a business from one favour to now having three staff, purchasing a delivery van to cater for same-day deliveries, a full order book for weddings in 2018, sending orders all over the island, the north of Scotland and the UK. The beautiful archipelago has 25000 potential customer spread over a vast area of some 250 miles by 50 miles so they realised that they had to broaden their customer base to include both local customers but to also reach a bigger market."
