A host of talented sportsmen and women from the islands were commended at the Lewis and Harris Sports Council Awards 2017.

LHSC chairman, Lesley Graham presented that awards last night (Monday 9th October) at the Sports council’s AGM.  They included adult and under 18 prizes as well as prizes for specific clubs and teams.

The Sports Council wishes to thank the Scottish Association of Sports Councils (SALSC), Sportsworld, Sportscotland and Murdo Maclean’s for donating the Awards .

The 2017  Salsc Service to Sport Award went to  Alex John Macleod of Back Football & Recreation Club.  The Under 18 Sportsworld Sports Person went to  Andrew  Hughson for Shooting and the The Over 18 Sportsworld Sports Person was awarded to Kara Hanlon for Swimming. Harris Gun Club received the LHSC Club of the Year award and the Scottish Salmon WIIGA Swim Team was awarded the Murdo Maclean Team/Squad of the Year. The Sportscotland Community Coach of the Year was presented to Lorraine Morrison for Running & Fitness and the Sportscotland Young Coach of the Year went to Ali Gillies for Youth Football.

In addition, last year’s Service to Sport winner Ethel McNally was awarded the Scottish Association of Local Sports Council National Service to Sport award.  Ethel was presented her award at the annual SRAC trip to Munich.
