A secret society of dachshund owners is planning to come out into the open with the first Hebridean sausage walk later this month.

At least 14 dachshunds will stretch their tiny legs along a route in Lews Castle grounds on Saturday 24th November, after a dachshund owner decided to see whether the interest was there for such an event in the islands.

Sausage walks are already quite a thing on the mainland, with walks of up to 60 of the lovable hounds in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

And a post on a Western Isles social media page shows that dachshunds might not be all that visible in Lewis and Harris, but they’re definitely there!

Dachshund-lover Linda Macdonald, who started the conversation, said: “There’s a lot more than I ever thought. It may not be on the scale of the mainland but there seems to be a lot of secret sausage hoarders out there!”

Those already signed up included long-haired, smooth and wire-haired dachshunds.

The walk is set to leave from the Castle at 1pm on Saturday November 24th.
