This year the Westside agricultural show, taking place on the 27th July will return to the Barvas and Brue Community Centre following a number of years at the Barvas Machair.

The show will be opened by Agnes Rennie of Urras Oighreachd Ghabhsainn with cattle judging from Ruaraidh MacDougall and sheep judging by Thomas Muirhead.

As well as livestock judging the show will also feature vehicle displays, agricultural produce, arts and crafts, heavy events as well as various stalls and children’s activities.

Because of limited parking at the Barvas and Brue Community centre only blue badge holders and families with very young children will be able to park at the hall. A park and ride service will be available from both the Barvas Free Church and Church of Scotland car parks.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Bernera community centre the community association is hosting a fun day at Bosta Beach on the 28th July.

With a BBQ, boat rides, tug of war, old school sports day, stalls and face painting the fun day should prove to be a great family day out. Following the fun day, commencing at 6pm, a quiz night and Ceilidh will be held at the Bernera Community Centre.

Teams for the quiz should consist of no more than 6 members with an entry of £10 per team. Music will be provided by Stuart, Spanish, Sandy and Niamh Smith. The event will be bring your own bottle.]

The annual Carloway Show will take place on Wednesday 1st August at Carloway School. The show will be opened by Angus Smith, a retired Consultant Doctor from Dalmor, who now lives in Bridge of Allan.

The show will feature Highland games, livestock judging, various exhibits and new for this year, is a dog show. In total there are 196 competition classes.

There will be no show dance this year. However on the 3rd August, the traditional show ceilidh will be held in the Carloway hall, band and further details will be available at a later date.
