A film investigating the problem of plastic has earned Castlebay School pupils three finalist nominations in the youth category of the 2019 FilmG competition.

‘A’ dol fodha ann am plastaig’ (‘Down with plastic’) explores the problem of plastic pollution, looking at the causes, the impact on Barra’s beaches and waters and at what individuals can do to reduce plastic waste.

Principal presenter Aithne NicDhùghaill has seen her central role shortlisted for best performance, while the whole team earned the nomination for the FilmG award for Gaelic – fluent and for best Gaelic script.

Judge Morag Stewart said: “It was very heartening being part of this year's judging team for the youth films.

"I was particularly pleased to see some good documentaries being made by this age group. This year's entries show that young people see film as a way of highlighting local, national and global issues. Along with the other judges, I was also pleased that the standard of Gaelic remains high amongst this age group.”

The winners will be announced at the prestigious FilmG awards ceremony at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow on Friday 8th February.
