Western Isles-based internet company Voove, based in Benbecula, has stepped in to the void being left by the closure of (Hebnet) Connected Communities.

Voove was founded in 2004 and originally based in Bristol, England prior to relocating to the former RAF Benbecula Military base in 2008. The company is run by Angus Doyle, an IT director within the Media and Events Industry.

Voove has live installations on St Kilda, as well as installations across the UK’s onshore and offshore wind farms.  Voove has adapted its bespoke rural communication solutions for the Festival and Event industries, providing secure, compliant back-haul internet delivered across the UK’s largest music festivals and events.

Angus Doyle said: "Since the announcement of the (Hebnet) Connected Communities being disbanded, we have been inundated with calls and emails.  We have reviewed the options available, and for those not able to take advantage of the Voove 4G Unlimited or BT Unlimited Options, we have negotiated a special deal for those Hebnet customers that do not have a suitable alternative.

"Introducing Hebsat - Unlimited Satellite Internet from £44.99 per month, no kit costs, no activation fees, voove have waived their costs to enable installation for only £49.99.

"Voove are BigBlu Internets' exclusive partners for the Western Isles and will be phasing in the take over of the installation, maintenance, and repairs of all direct and indirect BigBlu customers in the HS1 to HS9 postcodes from our offices in Stornoway and Benbecula.

"We are pleased to be able to offer this alternative to the local community.  We will be taking on additional local engineers to manage our SKY contract alongside the Hebsat offering.  Later this year voove will also be introducing the first Cyber Security Apprenticeship programme in both our Uist and Stornoway offices.

"With the purchase of the old Uist Laundry Building and surrounding land, we will be converting this 800sqm building into a technology hub to provide hands-on access and training for all generations, whether this is to teach the parents, learn the basics, more advanced tasks, or those wishing to start a podcast or streaming video channel.

"Being able to provide the Studio space, the equipment as well as the training to everyone we hope to help as many people as possible understand not only the risks, but also the benefits technology has to offer.
