Power supplies have been turned off in parts of South Harris today (Tuesday July 10th) as major upgrading work is carried out to the main supply network.
Properties in parts of Leverburgh, Strond and Borrisdale are without power from 10.30am until 4pm, as maintenance and upgrading work is carried out by a large team of engineers, including 10 linesmen from the mainland who have come to Harris for the day to join island teams.
The outage is affecting some local businesses. The Anchorage Restaurant in Leverburgh is closed until 5pm, although they will be open once again tonight for evening meals. An Clachan Community Shop is open but will be unable to sell fuel or to operate the Paypoint or ATM.
SSE said customers would notice increased activity around Leverburgh and numerous teams both up poles and working on supply to new properties in the area.
