Motorists using the pedestrian area in central Stornoway are facing a continued crackdown from Police Scotland.

Western Isles police report on Twitter that: “ We have been carrying out checks at the pedestrian area between Point Street and Francis Street, Stornoway.”

They point out that the regulations state that between 10.30am-6pm this is a pedestrian zone, with no vehicle access unless with a permit.

Yet, they say, that in just 75 minutes on Tuesday morning (September 25th) they warned 20 drivers.

They comment: “This is an area with a heavy footfall and it is pedestrianised for a reason.

“We would ask drivers to obey the restrictions for the safety of all.

“We will continue to monitor the area and carry out enforcement activity if we need to."
