Strong winds forecast over the weekend mean like cancellations on the Stornoway Ullapool route tomorrow (Saturday January 26th).
CalMac have placed the ferry on a yellow alert, with the 2.30pm sailing from Stornoway and the 6.30pm from Ullapool described as ‘extremely doubtful’ in a strong north-north-easterly wind, with wave heights forecast up to five metres.
There’s a Met Office 'Yellow' ‘be aware’ warning for snow and ice covering Lewis and Harris between 6pm on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
The chief forecaster said: “Rain across northern Scotland on Saturday evening will turn increasingly to snow, at first over hills and then down to lower levels through the course of Saturday night.
"Strong northerly winds will lead to blizzard conditions and drifting over high ground, where 10 to 15 cm of fresh snow may accumulate.
"At lower levels, 2 to 5 cm is possible, mainly inland and above 100m.”
