Information has gone out to stallholders and others in relation to the format of this year's event on Saturday August 3rd.

The organising committee says: "The Lewis Carnival is organised by a small group of volunteers. It takes six months of plans, emails, letters, calls, and applications to bring the event together.

"This year particular effort has gone into getting groups and organisations involved in the parade. It costs a surprising amount to make the day happen but we also borrow what we can and we are very grateful to the assorted community associations who leant us things like marquees and stalls, tables and chairs.

"This year we are setting the carnival up as its own charity, and whilst the application may not be completed in time for this year’s carnival day, the plan is going forward that the money raised will go into a fund to be used for community projects. We’ll provide more info on this once we have heard back from OSCR, the charity regulations body in Scotland."

The stalls and games of Carnival Day will be located in Perceval Square, Stornoway. There are also food stalls on the quayside as part of the two-day food festival event happening in conjunction with the Carnival.

Perceval Square Car Park

The carpark will be closed from 6pm on Friday 2nd August. Please share this information as it helps us get the word out! Details of its closure can also be found on the Welovestornoway website.

Start and Finish Times

Carnival will officially open in Perceval Square at 11am on Saturday 3rd August. Please have your stall set up and ready by 10.30am. Please do not leave vehicles in the area. Any cars needed for dropping off stock also need to be removed by 10.30am.

If you have a table in a marquee the marquees will be going up on Friday night with help from volunteers – if you have time to help us put up the marquee that your table will be in we will be very grateful! We will be meeting to set this up from 6pm on Friday 2nd August

The Parade

Registration opens at 12.15pm at Willowglen for all floats and the Parade is scheduled to leave at 1pm. There are eight lorries, a number of smaller vehicles and three pipe bands to get organised so we’d appreciate floats getting there in plenty of time. The parade will take approximately an hour to reach Cromwell Street and North Beach Street during which time the road will be closed. The floats will then be displayed on Cromwell Street and North Beach until 4.30pm. Cromwell Street (from the bottom of Kenneth Street) and North Beach Street (up to the Crown Hotel) will be closed from 12pm until 5pm after the floats have moved on.

The area will be closed from Thursday 1st August to provide time for set-up. We’re thankful to our Sponsors – Scottish Salmon Company and Maybury Gardens – for supporting this new venture. The Festival will open at midday on Friday and we’re delighted to welcome Gary Maclean, winner of MasterChef the Professionals, to officially open the start of Carnival Weekend.

Gary was appointed Scotland's first National Chef by the Scottish Government to promote Scotland as a Good Food Nation. In this role, Gary celebrates the food that Scotland has to offer.
