Lochs goalie Rachael Johnstone is heading for Denmark at the weekend, after being picked by her club, Celtic FC, to play in next week’s Dana Cup youth tournament.

Celtic FC announced a squad which they say combines experience with youth to defend the under-15s cup, won by the Celtic FC girls last year.

The tournament has been held annually in Hjorring, Denmark, since 1982 and will this year see 20,000 young footballers from countries including Korea, Kosovo, Sweden and the USA. This year the main venue for ceremonies and finals matches is a brand new stadium, the Nord Energi Arena, where the opening ceremony will be held on Monday evening (July 22nd).

Celtic begin their group stages against three teams from Norway; Freidig SPK, Nanset IF and Stord FB. Their first match kicks off on Tuesday (July 23rd) and all the matches will be streamed live via https://mycujoo.tv

Rachael, who signed for Celtic FC U19s girls’ academy in March, also plays and trains with Lewis and Harris Ladies FC and Stornoway Athletic, who have been helping out with fundraising to support the costs of her travel across the Minch. She goes to Sir E Scott School, where she’ll be in S5 from August, and lives in Balallan.

She has been issued with a full new travel and away kit (pictured) ahead of the tournament and the picture also shows her enjoying a brief period of relaxation on the island ahead of her next round of competitive matches.
