Around 80 people are in self-isolation on Lewis and Harris as the impact of the latest Covid-19 outbreak expands.
And while the self-isolation period is now 10 days, the clock is reset each time a new positive contact is found, meaning that family members where successive positive cases are identified, can end up being in isolation for considerably longer.
The latest update from NHS Western Isles Chief Executive Gordon Jamieson said last night (Saturday March 6) there had been 4 new cases of COVID-19 linked to the new outbreak which is affecting Lewis and Harris.
This brings this outbreak total to 16 so far.
The outbreak is having a considerable affect on bus services across Lewis and Harris (see timetables below.)
This outbreak has no known connection to the previous Lewis outbreak which seems to have petered out with a total of 95 cases identified.
Mr Jamieson also said: ”We vaccinated in excess of 900 people over the last two days.
"Having made good progress across the priority groups, we are now extending the vaccination invitation to those aged 55 & over.
"If you are aged 55 or over (or shielding, or an unpaid carer, or are aged 16-64 and in the ‘at risk’ category) you can contact us on 0808 196 8383 to book an appointment."
