Donella MacDonald of Reef in Uig has the perfect answer to cabin fever afterprolonged isolation – hit the road!
And that will be all the easier now, since she won her family the most luxurious possible set of wheels in an online raffle.
Bluebird is a bespoke campervan created by North Bound Campervans in Perth (http://www.northboundcampervans.co.uk/), fitted with cooking, sleeping and storage facilities inside a discreet and functional Peugeot Boxer van.
It was the prize in a limited ticket prize draw run by Bristol-based Vanny Campers, a company set up by enthusiastic travellers Ryan and Hannah to share their love of on-the-road adventures.
Donella MacDonald, who bought the winning ticket, entered for the draw at https://vannycampers.co.uk after seeing her neighbour’s mini campervan.
She told the competition organisers: “I saw his van and thought ‘that’s the way to do it’, so I entered the competition on a whim.”
Donella bought two tickets and, out of 5,299 entrants, one of hers was drawn as winner.
The van was driven up from Perth and loaded onto the overnight freight ferry from Ullapool last Tuesday (9 March), with Donella completing the last miles back to Reef in the driver’s seat of her winning wheels.
Donella said: “We were surprised and delighted to find that we had won the raffle, after buying a couple of tickets at the last minute.
“We collected the van from Stornoway last week and it is currently being set up for what will hopefully be an active season in and around Uig.
“It’ll be well-used by everybody in the family and we are looking forward to exploring different parts of the islands.”
Competition promoter Ryan said: “My partner and I run a small campervan competition business online. Our ethos is to give others the chance to win an amazing campervan for a tiny fraction of the cost.
“We are absolutely delighted for Donella. We really love what we do and we couldn't ask for a better winner. We can't wait to see both her and Bluebird on their travels in the future!”
