Signs of increasing economic confidence are to be seen throughout the Western Isles, as companies ready themselves to open doors to local residents and visitors alike.
And there’s been a joyful reception for one new opening, announced today (Sunday 2 May) by North Uist Distillery as they get ready to open their new shop tomorrow (Monday) at Nunton Steadings.
The initiative has received an enthusiastic reception from islanders, who’ve followed the development of the distillery and its success with small batch distillation of Uist Downpour gin.
The Downpour shop will stock full and miniature-sized bottles of gin and associated merchandise bearing the distinctive Downpour design.
Tomorrow’s opening is viewed with great positivity by followers, with dozens of supportive messages greeting their social media announcement this morning.
Ronald Macinnes of Carinish said: “Congratulations and best wishes for the future. It brings joy to my heart to see my grandfather’s former byre and outbuildings renovated and opened to the public.”
And Robin Spratt added: “Congratulations guys and every blessing with this part of the venture. I love this on so many levels, great to see you growing and now having a destination for visitors to come to, also fabulous to see the start of what you plan in putting new life back into this fabulous building. I’m sure that you and Nunton Steading are going to be good for each other. Well done.”
The new Downpour shop will be open Monday to Saturday through the summer, from 10am to 4pm. Full information is available at https://www.facebook.com/northuistdistillery
