SNP candidate for Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Alasdair Allan, has used the final days of the Holyrood election campaign to encourage people in the islands to turn out and use their both their votes on 6 May for the SNP.

Alasdair Allan said: “I would like to thank everyone who has been in touch with me in the islands throughout this campaign. It has been an election carried out in the strangest of circumstances, and now it is the voters’ turn to speak.

“I stand, I believe, on a record of personal hard work as your local MSP. And I stand on a manifesto of positive ideas about how to make the Islands and Scotland better as we emerge from the pandemic.

“Building 100,000 new homes over the next decade, launching a National Care Service, investing in the recovery of tourism, establishing a rural entrepreneur fund, and more investment in schools, ferries and the NHS frontline: these are just some of the commitments that will tangibly improve the lives of islanders.

"Thursday’s election also offers a fundamental choice about who has the right to decide on independence, and on what sort of a country we should be after the pandemic.

“I want to end by saying that, for me, it is just as important to get SNP candidates elected on the list as it is that you vote SNP in your constituency vote.

"So, if you want Scotland to get a choice about her own future, I urge you to give both your votes on Thursday to the SNP.”

Meanwhile, ballot papers for postal voters in Na h-Eileanan an Iar have arrived on doormats, ready for the Scottish Parliament election on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Malcolm Burr, Constituency Returning Officer, said: “When you receive your postal voting pack, make sure you read and follow the instructions carefully before completing your ballot papers. Don’t forget to include your date of birth and signature on the postal voting statement.  Follow the instructions in the pack to make sure your vote counts”

“Postal ballot papers must be received by the Returning Officer by 10pm on Thursday 6 May 2021.  As soon as you have completed your ballot papers and postal vote statement place it in the envelope provided and return it to make sure that it is received in good time.”
