Brothers James and Sam Campbell of Portvoller in Point proved that silence really can be golden yesterday (Saturday 25 September), with £1,000 raised for Blood Cancer UK – just by keeping quiet!
James, 10, and nine-year-old Sam joined Blood Cancer UK’s 120 challenge, which asks people to do something which is really hard for them, 120 times.
Everyone who knows the boys knew that for talkative Sam, especially, 120 minutes without speaking would be near-impossible, and teachers at Sgoil an Rubha even asked if they could move their challenge to a schoolday, just so they could witness the feat.
Instead the determined pair stayed totally quiet at home between 1 and 3pm yesterday, earning the charity a steadily increasing total, which has so far reached £1,045, including Gift Aid.
Mum Jaclyn said: “I’m so proud of them, they stayed quiet and just wrote messages on pieces of paper. They had a cake party and late night on Saturday, as promised, as a reward.”
