More ferry services are being cancelled this week because of the impact of overhaul periods lasting longer than expected.

Tomorrow (Friday December 3) as a result of delays to MV Lord of the Isles's annual overhaul, the following sailing has been cancelled:

Depart Lochboisdale – 06:20 Arrive Oban - 11.30.

An update regarding a sailing from Oban to Lochboisdale on Friday afternoon will be provided on this morning, CalMac says.

On Sunday December 5, MV Loch Seaforth is required to undergo an essential survey by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

This survey was scheduled to take place during the vessel’s annual overhaul period but was unable to take place because of the Covid-19 restrictions which were in place.

As a result of this, the following sailings on Sunday have been cancelled:

Depart Stornoway – 14:30. Depart Ullapool – 18:30

This means there's no ferry service during the day on Sunday between Stornoway and Ullapool.

Elsewhere, the shortage of ferries is creating the usual wave of disruption. Between Wemyss Bay and Rothesay, "MV Bute remains withdrawn from service, due to a technical fault with aft main engine crankshaft. Replacement components are in the process of being sourced and a timeline for repairs is being developed. Return to service date will be confirmed in due course. The single vessel timetable will continue to operate with MV Argyle until further notice."

Between Cowal and Dunoon, "MV Argyll Flyer will continue the Single Vessel timetable until the return of MV Ali Cat from annual overhaul. A period of crew familiarisation will be required once she departs dock and she is currently expected to return to service on 3rd January 2022. We are currently considering options for the deployment of MV Coruisk; this will be confirmed following the vessel's completion of cover as a result of the annual overhaul programme."

And on Saturday December 4, "Due to a delay in MV Hebridean Isles’ annual overhaul programme, the following sailings to/from Oban have been cancelled –

Depart Colonsay – 08:25  Depart Oban – 13:20

As part of the continuing work to adapt the ferry terminal in Tarbert to cope with the long-delayed new ferry which still has years of construction work ahead it on the Clyde, on Wednesday December 8, the following sailings have been cancelled:

Depart Uig – 14:00.  Depart Tarbert – 16:00

This is described as "part of an ongoing infrastructure improvement project at Tarbert pier, contractors will be carrying out works on the fenders."
