The Scottish Co-op’s two Stornoway stores donated trolley loads of festive favourites for around 50 local families in need of support this Christmas-time.

The superstore in Macaulay Road and the smaller store in Cromwell Street, donated £1,000 worth of products which were distributed in time for Christmas with the help of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar who were able to identify local families to benefit from the support.

Items donated included the ingredients for Christmas lunch along with festive favourites such as crisps, chocolates and Christmas crackers.

Steven Cooper, manager of the Macaulay Road store, said: “We are proud to serve the Island and, my team – who have been amazing throughout the pandemic - is committed to connecting communities and playing its part in local life – we were all delighted when we had the opportunity to give something back locally and, we hope that this donation helps to spread some festive cheer and make a difference to around 50 local families who were in need of support this Christmas-time.”
