Lewis and Harris Auction Mart are gearing up for a new season of livestock sales, with sale dates for 2022 announced yesterday (Monday 21 February).
The 2021 season saw a return to a full programme of sales – albeit with safeguards and restrictions in place – and also saw record prices and record numbers in the ring.
Sheep numbers were up by 1,000 on 2020, breaking the 10,000 barrier for the first time in many years, with 10,400 sold.
There were good prices on all classes of stock and the tup sale returned after a year’s absence due to Covid.
The first sale of the year will be the lamb sale on Wednesday 24 August, closely followed by the lambs and ewes sale on 7 September.
In the first week of October two days of activity will see the rams sale on Monday 3 October and the cattle sale on Tuesday 4 October, with the final sale of the season, of all classes of sheep, on Tuesday 11 October.
All sales will be conducted by Dingwall and Highland Marts. Lewis and Harris Auction Mart directors thank all those who support the sales by selling their livestock through the local mart.
